Sweet, peak-season berries flavor an easy simple syrup that transforms lemonade into the ultimate refreshing summer drink.
Ingredients
- 5 cups cold water, divided
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 (6 oz) pkg blueberries
- 1 ¼ cups fresh lemon juice (from 7-8 lemons)
- Ice, for serving
Steps
- In a medium pot, combine 1 cup water, sugar, and blueberries. Cook on medium-high 6–8 min., until blueberries burst, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. With a potato masher, mash berries in the pot. Let mixture cool.
- Strain blueberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pushing on solids, then discarding. To pitcher, stir in remaining 4 cups water and lemon juice. Refrigerate until cold. Serve over the ice.
